From Farm to Fridge: How It All Began at Cotswold Fridge Hire

If you’ve ever wondered how Cotswold Fridge Hire started, it wasn’t with a business plan or a big launch, it began right here on our family farm… with a few too many Christmas turkeys and nowhere to put them.

Farming is what we do. Long hours, early mornings and a fair bit of improvising when things don’t quite go to plan. A few years ago, one of our Christmas enterprises was rearing turkeys for the local market. By the time December rolled around, we had birds prepped and ready for customers to collect, but it quickly became clear that Mum’s fridge just wasn’t going to cut it.

We begged, borrowed and rearranged every bit of cold space we could find, but still needed somewhere proper to store them. So, we made a decision that changed everything, we bought our very first fridge trailer.

It was purely a practical choice at first. The turkeys stayed perfectly chilled, customerswent home happy, and we could finally breathe again. Little did we know, that single trailer would become the start of a whole new business.

The “Lightbulb” Moment 

Once the Christmas rush was over, the trailer sat quietly in the yard… until spring arrived. Then the questions started coming in “Could we borrow that fridge for a party?” “Would it fit a few barrels for a wedding?”

Before long, friends, neighbours and local caterers were calling us regularly. Everyone seemed to have a use for a fridge trailer from young farmers’ events to weddings, markets and summer parties.

That’s when we realised this wasn’t just a one-off. There was real demand for mobile refrigeration, and it was coming from every corner of the community. So, we decided to take the plunge we invested in another trailer. And then another.

From One Trailer to a Nationwide Fleet 

Fast-forward to today, and Cotswold Fridge Hire now provides fridge and freezer trailer hire across the UK, supporting everything from local farm shops and pubs to major festivals like Glastonbury, Royal Ascot and Big Feastival.

We’ve expanded into emergency fridge hire and refrigeration breakdown cover, delivering rapid-response refrigeration when businesses need it most. Our fleet includes dual-temperature trailers and even an Arctic lorry cooler for large-scale events and supermarkets.

It’s grown far beyond those first Christmas turkeys, but our roots haven’t changed. We’re still working farmers, still hands-on and still proud to run a family business that values reliability, hard work, and personal service.

This year, we rolled out new branding across our trailers, clean, professional and consistent across the fleet. It’s been a huge milestone for us and a reminder of how far we’ve come.
